Lynda I. Chung, Chair of the Valensi Rose Litigation Department, spoke on June 18 about “Money, Marriage, Debt, and Death: Handling Decedents’ Estates and Trusts With Community Property or Debt Issues.”
Her presentation was at a virtual conference organized by the Berkeley-Albany Bar Association, for attorneys who handle estate issues.
Following an individual’s death, a surviving spouse, heirs, and their professional advisors often must deal with the decedent’s debts. Lynda’s program discussed how California community property law affects probate and trust administration processes in such cases.
Complications in handling an estate may include creditors’ claims against the decedent’s estates and post-mortem property disputes between the surviving spouse and the decedent’s heirs.
Lynda also offered practical tips to attendees for handling such disputes.
As a member of our Litigation Group, Lynda specializes in probate and business litigation matters, including will contests, trust contests, financial elder abuse, fiduciary accounting, real property, and construction contract disputes, creditor's rights, fraudulent transfers, and disputes between shareholders or members of closely-held companies.
