Valensi Rose Partner Michael R. Morris is serving on the planning committee of the CalCPA Education Foundation Entertainment Industry Conference, and will lead a panel discussion, “Ins and Outs of Acquiring Music Catalogs.”
The conference will be held June 22, 2023, at the Marriott Marina Del Rey, 4100 Admiralty Way, Marina Del Rey, CA, 90292, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Registration is available online, with reduced pricing for early registration available until May 11.
The CalCPA Entertainment Industry Conference, now in its 53rd year, provides CPAs, business managers, attorneys, CFOs and controllers with insights and practical advice for handling entertainment business issues.
This year’s conference will provide updates on legislative and regulatory changes that are critical to the entertainment industry, identify key issues facing the industry, and examine the effect of recent changes to industry standards and protocols.
Michael’s panel will offer insights on the acquisition of music assets; planning and structuring deals; tax considerations; and differences in types of deals and the valuation of them.
The panelists who will be joining Michael are Jason Sklar, a Partner with Shamrock Capital Advisors; Henry W. Root, of the Smith Entertainment Law Group, LLP; Denise Colletta, Senior Vice President with City National Bank and leader of its Entertainment Banking team; and David Weitzman, a Partner with Primary Wave Music whose focus is on acquiring music catalogs.
Mr. Morris is a former trial lawyer for the IRS and a certified specialist in taxation law. His entertainment industry clients include producers, record labels, composers, music publishers, actors, talent agencies, motion picture companies, post-production houses and Grammy-winning recording artists.
He has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer (2006-2023) and one of “L.A.’s Top 100 Lawyers” by the Los Angeles Business Journal.
