Valensi Rose Partner Michael R. Morris moderated the “Annual Music Legal Eagles Night” panel at the California Copyright Conference.
The evening discussion was held on September 10, 2019, at the Courtyard By Marriott Hotel in Sherman Oaks.
The panel discussed current trends in recording and music publishing agreements and revenue splits between labels and artists, and the impact of recent copyright litigation involving Led Zeppelin, Katie Perry and other high-profile artists.
Panelists included Josh Binder, a partner at the music and entertainment law firm of Rothenberg Mohr & Binder, LLP; Erin Jacobson, who describes herself as “The Music Industry Lawyer;” Jason Karlov, chair of the Entertainment, Media and Sports Practice Group at Barnes & Thornburg LLP; and Edwin F. McPherson, of McPherson LLP, designated by Billboard Magazine as among “50 Attorneys of Note in the Music Biz.”
Mr. Morris, a past President of the California Copyright Conference, is a former trial lawyer for the IRS and a certified specialist in taxation law. His entertainment industry clients include producers, record labels, composers, music publishers, actors, talent agencies, motion picture companies, post-production houses and Grammy-winning recording artists.
The Conference, established in 1953, focuses on copyright and other issues pertaining to music and entertainment. Its members include publishers, songwriters, composers, attorneys, music supervisors, trade publication representatives, performing rights societies, music libraries, motion pictures, television, multimedia, Internet, and record companies.
